Hey, Flower Children! We hope you’re enjoying our newest Page Views selection, The Girls by Northern California native Emma Cline (Random House, 2016) for our exhibition The Summer of Love Experience: Art, Fashion, and Rock & Roll. Cline’s debut novel invites readers into the world of Evie Boyd, a 14-year-old girl searching for an escape to her suburban life at the end of the 1960s. Full of desperate teenage yearning, Evie finds a tantalizing new crowd and lifestyle. The Girls, set in the Bay Area, presents a rich narrative highlighting the highs and lows of the Summer of Love.
Join us on June 30th for our next Page Views meetup at the de Young from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Piazzoni Murals Room for a book chat and small group discussions. Can’t attend in person? Enjoy the event on Facebook Live and participate remotely.
We can’t wait to discuss the book with you! Send us your questions and connections you’ve drawn between The Girls and The Summer of Love Experience (or your own memories of the time!). Share with us using #PageViewsSF on Instagram and Twitter. You can also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org in advance of our meetup.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts on June 30th!
