This event is expired.

Anna-Alexia Basile

Join the Museums for a midday break with mindfulness meditation through Resonance, an immersive experience that focuses on listening, seeing, and feeling with real-time awareness. Inspired by works from our permanent collection and shot on-site at the de Young’s Pool of Enchantment, Resonance virtually transports you back to the museum and helps you practice self-care. The meditation session, which incorporates musical elements, will be led by neuroscientist Nkechi Deanna Njaka and multi-instrumentalist Tauwoo.

About the guests

Nkechi Deanna Njaka

Nkechi Deanna Njaka is a neuroscientist, artist, meditation guide, and public speaker based in San Francisco. She has spent the majority of her life investigating the significant relationship between the brain and the body. Through her work, research, practice, and study, she has discovered that mindfulness and creativity are crucial for sustaining individual and global well-being. Njaka’s work intersects wellness, science, art, and social practice. Her expertise has been recognized by Apple, Black Girl in Om, Calm, Forbes, Google, and goop, to name a few. Njaka is an adviser of chorus meditation and a Lululemon ambassador for her work in mindfulness. Njaka is also the founder of The Compass, co-host of the podcast Dating White, and the other half of the music and mindfulness project Resonance.

Tauwoo

As a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Tauwoo dives deeply into the emotive world that a song or vibe has to offer. His diverse sound draws inspiration from West African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian rhythms as well as bands like Radiohead, Photay, Anderson Paak, Bonobo, and Patrick Watson. He loves collaborations with other creatives and strives to express an emotion in its purest form, be it for a brand, a film, or his personal work.

Please note this event will be run via Zoom, a video platform available free of charge. We recommend downloading Zoom to your computer or mobile device prior to the event to avoid any technical difficulties.
