Join us for opening day of Contemporary Muslim Fashions, a celebration of style and design featuring modest fashion artists and icons.

 

Faith and Fashion: Global Interest in American Modest Design

Professor Reina Lewis, consulting curator of Contemporary Muslim Fashions, in conversation with Carmen Muhammad, founder of Al-Nisa Designs.
This program is free and tickets are first-come, first-served.
 

Instameet: Street Style with Langston Hues
Piazzoni Murals Room; various museum locations
noon–4 pm
Meet exhibition artist Langston Hues, street style photographer, from noon–1 pm In the Piazzoni Murals Room. Langston will meet fans and sign copies of his book, Modest Street Fashion (available to purchase at the Museum Store). He will take photos of visitors in their street style with iconic backdrops around the de Young between 1–4 pm.
 

Designer Presentation: Dian Pelangi
Piazzoni Murals Room
1–2 pm
Exhibition designer and fashion icon Dian Pelangi will talk about her art in the Piazzoni Murals Room, followed by a Q+A. This program is free but space is limited.
 

Fashion Panel: Contemporary Muslim Fashions
Koret Auditorium
2–3 pm
Her Highness Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, former editor-in-chief, Vogue Arabia, and Ghizlan Guenez, Founder of The Modist,  in discussion with curator Jill D'Alessandro.
Tickets are required for this program: $10 members | $15 non-members

Tickets to the Fashion Panel are limited and may sell out. All other activities are free and open to the public, but space is limited and availability is first come, first served.
