For his one-month residency, feather lei artist, cultural practitioner, and Kumu (teacher) of Hawaiian Feather Art, Herman Mossman Tachera, will display his feather works and include talk story sessions on the cultural aspects of Hawaiian Feather Lei. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn and to create feather projects. Joining Tachera for the month of January will be other Hawaiian Feather Artists, Bob Miyashiro, Michael Vieira, and Rick San Nicolas. On Saturday afternoons, Tachera will invite musicians and dancers into the gallery in a celebration of Hawaiian culture.

Herman Mossman Tachera studied and developed his skills and knowledge in Hawaiian Feather Art under the guidance of the late Mary Louise Kaleonahenahe Kekuewa and Paulette Nohealani Kahalepuna, who are considered the foremost masters of Hawaiian Feather Art. He has over sixteen years of experience working in the art of Feather Lei and has conducted workshops throughout Hawaii, the U.S. mainland, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea.

The Artist Studio program is made possible with major support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ Museums for America program.
