American Decorative Arts Forum (ADAF)
The American Decorative Arts Forum encourages the study, understanding, enjoyment and preservation of American decorative arts from their earliest beginnings to the present.
American decorative arts are surviving objects of American make or use--usually other than paintings, sculpture, and architecture--which possess sufficient merit in quality of design, manufacture, or inherent aesthetics to qualify as art, and as such document a historical period.
Since its founding in 1983, the Forum has earned a national reputation for excellent programs. Modest membership fees make the Forum easily accessible to all decorative arts devotees--scholars, students, collectors, and draftspersons. Click here for more information.
When you join the Forum, your benefits will include:
Unlimited opportunities to share your interest, knowledge, and friendship with others committed to American decorative arts.
Free monthly lectures on a variety of topics by prominent scholars from around the country. Lectures are presented at the Legion of Honor at 8 pm on the second Tuesday of each month.
Pre-lecture mini exhibitions from our members' collections.
Post-lecture receptions for our guest speakers, often held in members' homes or shops.
Curator-guided walkthroughs of special museum exhibitions.
Intensive study groups with decorative arts scholars featuring in-depth examination of a subject.
Periodic tours of significant regions of the United States led by a decorative arts expert-- offering behind-the-scenes examination and study of historic sites, period homes, and museum collections.
Day and weekend trips to Northern California collections, historic areas, and museums.
Calendar of activities, published bimonthly.
Opportunities for preserving American decorative arts in Northern California by joining others in fundraising efforts to expand the collections of the de Young Museum, the Oakland Museum, and other organizations.
