There are two free Saturday programs offered at the de Young on Saturdays for families. The Family Art Making tables offer drop-in programming every Saturday from 10 am–3 pm in the Piazzoni Murals Room. The Doing and Viewing Art program offers a guided tour and art studio activity for children 4-12 years of age. This program is held most Saturdays—please check the online calendar to confirm.
Family Art Making
Each month, the Family Art Making program will explore a different theme or collection in our permanent galleries or in a special exhibition. Stop by the Piazzoni Murals Room to pick up a Gallery Guide before heading into the galleries. After you have completed the handout with your children, head back to create an art project related to what you just saw.
Family Art Making is offered every Saturday of the year, from 10 am–3 pm, free and open to the public. Museum admission required for certain gallery activities.
Doing and Viewing Art
Doing and Viewing classes explore a variety of themes based on the permanent collections and current exhibitions. Facilitated family tours are followed by studio workshops in our tower classrooms taught by professional teaching artists.
The program, designed for children 4-12 years of age, runs from 10–11:30 am and is repeated from 12:30– 2 pm. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Doing and Viewing classes are free after museum admission. Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Sign in 15 minutes before the start of class. Programs begin promptly—no late admittance.
Doing and Viewing Art is made possible with support from the de Youngsters.
