On March 26, 2011 a symposium was held at the de Young in conjunction with the special exhibition Balenciaga and Spain. Guest curator Hamish Bowles and speakers Miren Arzalluz, Lourdes Font and Pamela Golbin examined the power of the Spanish imagination and its cultural and artistic impact on the work of one of the 20th century's greatest designers, Cristóbal Balenciaga.
