Drawing on images and documents from the Rose Mandel Archive, including Mandel’s unprecedented 1956 portraits of Richard Diebenkorn painting in his Berkeley studio, Susan Ehrens will share her insights and thoughts on the improbable journey and original work of this Polish-born Bay Area photographer.
The lecture will be followed by a book signing of the exhibition catalogue with authors Julian Cox, chief administrative curator and founding curator of photography at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and Susan Ehrens, art historian and independent photography curator and consultant, who worked closely with Rose Mandel during the last two decades of the artist's life.
Free tickets are available in front of the Koret Auditorium beginning at 6 pm. No advance reservations necessary. Seating begins at 6:30 pm.
