The Aqua Velvets
The Aqua Velvets

This event is expired.

The Aqua Velvets are one of the world's premier surf instrumental bands. Their sound is a blend of surf, latin rhythms, blues, lounge exotica, and free-form improvisation.

Originating in San Francisco in the early 1990s, the Aqua Velvets released their first CD in 1992 on the indie label Riptide/Heyday Records. They were signed to Atlantic Records in 1995 with the release of the groundbreaking Surfmania, and they are currently signed with Milan Records—a soundtrack label under Warner Music—with which they have released the beautiful Nomad and Guitar Noir. They have recorded ten CDs in total, and bandleader guitarist Miles Corbin has released several solo projects as well.

The Aqua Velvets' music has been featured in many film and television soundtracks, including the CBS series Nash Bridges, which was filmed on location in San Francisco. They have toured the West Coast extensively and have appeared on the East Coast as well, both headlining and sharing bills with artists such as Chris Isaak, Dick Dale, and the legendary Beach Boys. The band receives airplay worldwide, including in Australia, Europe, Russia, and Africa. Recently their song Spanish Blue was featured in choreographer Ohar Naharin's piece Deca Dance, performed in the world tour of the Batsheva Dance Company of Tel Aviv, Israel.
