Native American artist and artistic director Eddie Madril brings his vision to the stage through the talent and collaboration of local Native American artists, craftsmen and designers to feature works representing native North American regions, nations, and tribes, from Alaska, the Northwest Coast, and California to the Southwest, Plains, Northeast, and Southeast.
During this unique presentation, discover the influence over history of traditional Native regalia on fashion. Music, storytelling, dance, and the catwalk come together to share the culture and beauty of American Indian people through both historical and contemporary reflections of style, exploring the role clothing plays in individuality, family, and community as an expression of who we are.
Fashion, though a more modern word, is an ancient expression of who we are as individuals, as a community, and as a culture. Through the development of this identity we are influenced by the world around us, finding inspiration in the similar expression of another person's choices, in the natural world of colors and designs, in the stories lying behind the visual representation that we come to understand. This influence is not one-directional: as in all human experiences, it reverberates in all directions, feeding and influencing us as individuals, and feeding and influencing those we encounter.
