Global Village | Film Screening: "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover "
Koret Auditorium
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (Peter Greenaway, 1989), with costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier
Parental discretion advised
A kind bookseller and the abused wife (Helen Mirren) of a crude Mafia crime lord make love in the wife’s favorite ritzy gourmet restaurant under the watchful eye of the cook who, in turn, has his own fantasies about the wife. This sensual drama is as erotic and beautiful as it is violent and disturbing. The husband literally gets his just desserts in the stomach-turning finale.
