"Fresco-Painting an Orthodox Church": Presentation by Father Patrick and Father Moses of Saint Gregory of Sinai Monastery
Piazzoni Murals Room
Fresco-Painting an Orthodox Church
This presentation shows the process of fresco painting in Orthodox Churches as practiced in the 21st century. Father Patrick and Father Moses of Saint Gregory of Sinai Monastery are engaged in the painting of Saint Seraphim's Orthodox Church in Santa Rosa, California, and also the Church of Saint-Germain d'Auxerre and Sainte-Marie-Madeleine in Vézelay, France. They will show images and video clips of their work in progress, discuss the iconographic programs of the churches, and hold a question-and-answer session.
This presentation is offered in conjunction with the de Young's November Artist-in-Residence, Javier Manrique.
