Film Screening: Falbalas (Paris Frills)

Falbalas (1945, not rated, 1:59)

Directed by Jacques Becker, black & white, in French with English subtitles

Screening presented in partnership with The San Francisco Fashion Film Festival. Annie Wilson, the festival's curator, will introduce tonight’s film screening of Falbalas, a film that relates to The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk.

Set in the milieu of a Parisian couturier, Falbalas would inspire Gaultier to enter the world of fashion, eventually realizing his dream of establishing his own line of haute couture in 1997. Apart from the stunningly beautiful clothes provided by couturier Marchel Rochas, the film stars the radiant Micheline Presle. She is the object of two men's affections, tormented fashion designer Pierre Clarence, and her husband-to-be, silk manufacturer Jean. Featuring Raymond Rouleau, Jean Chevrier, and Gabrielle Dorziat.
