Live Music at 6:30–8:30 p.m.
The all-acoustic Gonzalo Bergara Quartet plays a modern variant of 1930s Django Reinhardt–inspired Gypsy jazz. Composer and lead guitarist Bergara mixes cascades of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina, supported by an ace clarinetist and a honed rhythm section. Bergara is fiery and focused, while the hard-swinging band takes the audience for a ride.

Conversation with artist Rupert Garcia and Donald Farnsworth of Magnolia Editions
Rupert Garcia was a leader of the powerful sociopolitical Chicano Art Movement almost since its inception in the sixties, and he continues to use art to address social and political concerns and inequities. He was also a student at San Francisco State during the 1968 student-led strike, for which he designed many of the posters. While a graduate student studying painting at State in 1969, Garcia was invited by Raza Studies to design and teach the first La Raza Art Workshop. In 1970, he was a co-founder of the Galería de la Raza, a nonprofit community-based arts organization which still exists and whose mission is to foster public awareness and appreciation of Chicano/Latino art.
