Friends of AOA

With premier gallery space, growing collections, and expanding public programs, the AOA collections have become more prominent and integral to the Museums’ interpretive framework than ever before. These collections are unique and reflect the Bay Area’s passion for diverse cultures and artistic traditions. Their quality and number rank the Fine Arts Museums among the top U.S. art museums with AOA collections, thanks to the generosity of the late Phyllis Wattis and the Wattis Family, Marcia and John Friede, and many other generous patrons.

It is truly an exciting time, with these collections growing ever stronger and more influential. By joining Friends of AOA, you can help increase the momentum and actively advocate for these arts and these collections. We invite you to become a founding member of the newly inaugurated Friends of AOA, which will gather collectors and others devoted to the arts of these areas (with noncommercial interests) to meet strategic goals for development of the collections, staffing, and special exhibitions. Members of our group include serious tribal or ancient art collectors and also those who are hoping to develop their knowledge of the department’s fields or who hold a broad and general interest in one or more areas.

Among the benefits you will enjoy by becoming a Friend of AOA:

  • Invitations to exclusive previews and opening receptions for AOA exhibitions, including special behind-the-scenes presentations, lectures, and annual meetings.
  • Privileged access to the Museums’ collections in storage and conservation, visits to private collections, and listing as a friend in the Museums’ annual publication.
