Celebrate the special exhibition Modernism from The National Gallery of Art: The Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Collection with Argentine tango! Featuring a guest appearance by the renowned Trio Garufa, the milonga will re-create the great tango dance halls of Buenos Aires.
TangoCalifia is a non-profit company brought to you by avid tango dancers Terence Clarke and Beatrice Bowles. Besides bringing milongas to beautiful public spaces, TangoCalifia also funds scholarships for deserving young dancers.
About Trio Garufa
Trio Garufa ranks among its generation's foremost interpreters of Argentine tango, mixing a deep respect for the golden era of tango with their passion for dancing and performing the music of Argentina.
Trio Garufa is an international ensemble dedicated to performing authentic Argentine music. They have performed across Argentina, Canada, and the United States. Trio Garufa performs classic Argentine tango from the golden era (1930s–50s), as well as Argentine folk music, modern tangos from Piazzolla, original compositions, and electro-tango. It is the only tango ensemble based in the this country to have performed extensively in the milongas (tango dance clubs) of Buenos Aires. The international trio includes Guillermo Garcia (Argentina), guitar; Adrian Jost (Switzerland), bandoneón; and Sascha Jacobsen (California), bass.
Friday Nights at the de Young public programs are free of charge. Tickets are required to view permanent collection galleries and the special exhibitions.
