Interesting and unpredictable things happen when cultural repositories become workshops. Megan and Rick Prelinger will speak about developing an appropriation-friendly library rich in visual materials that supports the work of artists as well as activists, scholars, and the curious of all kinds.
Megan and Rick Prelinger together founded Prelinger Library in 2004. Located in San Francisco's South of Market district, it hosts up to a thousand visits a year from artists, activists, and scholars. Rick is a professor of film and digital media at UC Santa Cruz and a filmmaker, writer, and archivist. He founded the Prelinger Archives, a film archive, in 1983. Megan is a historian of technology and of graphic design, and a naturalist.
