Every year, people from around the world gather in the small town of Cazadero, California, to experience Brazilian music and dance culture firsthand through a full-immersion educational program. We're excited to partner with Brazil Camp to bring some of their world-class artists to the de Young.
One of the leading figures in modern Brazilian music, guitarist, composer, and arranger Chico Pinheiro was born in São Paulo. Self-taught, Pinheiro started playing the guitar and the piano when he was seven years old. After starting to perform professionally at age 15, he rounded out his musical education with a stay in Boston, where he received his music degree from Berklee College of Music, studying with legendary teachers Mick Goodrick and Hal Crook and winning several academic and musical prizes during his studies.
Every week, Friday Night at the de Young offers art making to encourage everyone, of all ages, to tap into their creativity.
To celebrate Modernism from the National Gallery of Art: The Robert & Jane Meyerhoff Collection, recent de Young Artist-In-Residence Tim Roseborough will present Contenda: A Visual Quiz Event. This interactive, multimedia event draws from the format of school quiz-bowl contests with questions about artistic movements and topics.
Textile artist Adela Akers is moving her studio to the de Young. Visitors to the new studio will learn how each choice in her art-making process contributes to the unique character and quality of her work.
Enjoy the festivities of Friday Nights at the de Young along with a pre-reserved spot on a docent led tour of Modernism from the National Gallery of Art: The Robert & Jane Meyerhoff Collection.
Package includes the tour, an exhibition ticket, and a complimentary beverage (choice of beer, wine, or non-alcoholic selection). Tours begin promptly at 7 pm. Discounts may not apply.
