GLAAD award–winning comedian and performance artist Marga Gomez will be telling jokes and representing two minorities: Latinas who can't speak Spanish and lesbians who are bad at sports. Gomez had the pleasure of running a comedy showcase for two years at Esta Noche, where she became good friends with "Las Chicas."
This event is organized in collaboration with René Yañez, co-founder of Galería de la Raza, curator, and activist.
About Marga Gomez
Marga Gomez is a GLAAD award winner and triple winner of the San Francisco Bay Guardian’s Best of the Bay comedian award. She is also one of the first openly lesbian comics in the nation. Armistead Maupin has called Gomez "astonishing," and Robin Williams has praised her as “a lesbian Lenny Bruce.”
Her stand-up comedy has been featured on HBO, LOGO, Comedy Central, and PBS. She has appeared nationally and internationally in concert, at universities, pride festivals, and numerous comedy festivals, including San Francisco Sketchfest, Montreal’s Just for Laughs, London’s Hot August Fringe, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Marga is also the writer/performer of ten solo plays. Her latest work, Lovebirds, made its New York premiere in 2014 and will open this September at the Marsh in Berkeley for a six-week engagement. Marga teaches solo performance in San Francisco at Brava Theater, which named her a 2014 Artist in Residence.
