Kelvin Ming Young, Phytomorph I, Acrylic on Canvas, 48"x60", 2013
This event is expired.
Kelvin Ming Young will demonstrate his painting process, starting with raw canvas, and applying paint with various techniques, including staining, dripping, and other techniques.
Mr. Young is a Chinese-American visual artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the US with family when he was 12. He received his BA from UC Berkeley, Post-Bac from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and MFA from San Francisco Art Institute. Young’s work is primarily abstract, utilizing watercolor, acrylic, print making, and mixed media.
The process of painting has always been paramount in Young’s work. He often combines different painting techniques and applies them freely in works that draw on rich sources of images ranging from scientific diagrams to Chinese folk art. Using fluid paint and working on a flat surface instead of an easel, Young structures his work in layers formed by successive mark-making, much like a succession of events that happen over time, which documents the painting process one layer at a time.
